
During the current legislative session (2021) of the NC General Assembly, NCOMA has opposed the following legislation and issued Action Alerts to Members:
SB 249/HB 277 - The SAVE Act. This scope of practice bill proposes the following.
- Includes nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists within the definition of “advanced practice registered nurse.”
- Removes the limitation against prescribing a medical treatment or making a medical diagnosis except under physician supervision from the definition of the practice of nursing by a registered nurse.

HB 93- Require Naloxone with Opioid Scripts. This bill would require physicians to prescribe an opioid antagonist, such as Naloxone, when prescribing opioid medications for patients. NCOMA signed on to a letter of opposition in March. You can read the letter here.
